Import and export your lists
Years of ratings on another site shouldn’t mean starting from zero. Movieo reads IMDb, iCheckMovies and plain CSV exports — and hands everything back whenever you ask.
One careful import turns a fresh account into one with history — and history is what the filters and recommendations feed on. The care is mostly in step four.
- Export from wherever your history lives. Download your ratings or lists from IMDb or iCheckMovies, or prepare your own CSV file if your record lives in a spreadsheet.
- Open the importer from the user menu. Sign in, then look top right — import and export both live in the user menu.
- Pick the source format. Tell Movieo what it’s reading: an IMDb export, an iCheckMovies export, or a custom CSV.
- Choose the target list deliberately. This is the step to slow down on. Films you’ve watched belong on the seenlist; films you intend to watch belong on the watchlist. Sending a to-watch file into the seenlist is the classic mistake — those films would silently vanish from your recommendations.
- Run it and skim the result. When the import finishes, open the target list and spot-check it: right list, sensible count, familiar titles.
- Restore if it went wrong. A bad import isn’t fatal — restore rolls back your most recent import and you can run it again properly.
- Export any time. The full export lives in the same menu and covers everything you’ve built. Your record stays portable, always.
Restore reaches back exactly one import — the most recent. Verify each import before starting the next, because once a new one runs, the previous import can no longer be rolled back.
When in doubt about a messy file, clean it up before importing rather than splitting it into many runs — every import you follow with another one becomes permanent.
Sign in, then find Import in the user menu, top right.
