Create and share a list
A list is a point of view: the best heist films, movies that feel like autumn, everything your kid should see by twelve. Here’s how to build one and decide who gets to see it.
Created lists live alongside your seenlist, watchlist and blacklist, but they’re yours to shape and — if you choose — to publish. Building one takes five steps.
- Create the list. From the lists page, start a new list and give it a name and a description that says what belongs on it. Every new list is private by default — nobody sees it until you decide otherwise.
- Add movies. As you browse, add films to your list from their movie pages. A list built over a few evenings of browsing usually beats one assembled in a single sitting.
- Put it in order and annotate. Reorder the entries until the sequence makes your argument, and add notes where a title needs a word of defense — the third pick is usually the one that needs explaining.
- Share it privately by link. Want one friend’s opinion before the world’s? Send them the list’s link. A private list stays out of public browsing, but the link you share still opens it.
- Publish when it’s ready. Publishing puts the list where everyone can browse it — and opens it to votes and comments. Good lists earn karma; contested picks earn discussions, which is half the fun.
Private by default means exactly that: creating and filling a list commits you to nothing. Publishing is a separate, deliberate step.
Votes, comments and karma only apply to published lists — a private list is just between you and whoever holds the link.
Created lists are free, like everything else in tracking — and they’re included when you export your data.
Free with any account; private until you publish.
