Kenny Leon
Overview
Winner of 7 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, The Wiz was a massive Broadway hit which spawned a dismal feature film starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. Executive Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have assembled a Tony-winning creative team, the imaginative Cirque du Soleil Theatrical and a diverse cast of showstoppers designed to create an eye-popping new take on the musical unlike anything ever seen.

If Thursday night's The Wiz Live! shared the exuberant punctuation of 2013's The Sound of Music Live! and last year's Peter Pan Live!, it surpassed both of those previous efforts in terms of energy, spirit, and watchability.

At a time when the country is reeling... there is no better time to experience a soothing, expertly executed celebration of family, friendship and black culture.

Maybe the sincere production of The Wiz Live! will inspire young theater lovers, but it didn't soar.

The most important elements in the success of The Wiz Live! come from Leon and Robinson and their accumulation of a rather remarkable assortment of talent to populate the stages at Grumman Studios.
