Overview
From last year’s Venice Film Festival comes this exquisitely crafted film. Hayuta and Berl, an elderly couple, movingly portrayed by Rivka Gur and Yosef Carmon, have become disillusioned by the social changes around them in today’s Israel. They still cling to their idealistic communal Labour Zionist dreams of building a welfare state and suffer both physically and spiritually as they try to cope with their aging. While telling of the plight of this particular couple, the film also examines the problem of the invisibility of the elderly in our society. Filmmaker Amir Manor’s film is controlled, subtle and affecting, graceful and empathetic, romantic but never maudlin.
